Create Awareness

With three new suspected cases of coronavirus in Pune and two already tested positive in Kerala, the country is in a state of panic. The WHO has already declared it a health emergency. Kerala had successfully contained Nipah virus in 2008 after making untiring efforts for creating awareness among citizens. Since prevention is better than cure, it is hight time that the health authorities create awareness across the city.

More funds for MC

It’s great that the Budget outlay for Chandigarh has increased by 8.1 per cent from the previous year. Against the UT’s demand of Rs 5,300 crore, it has been allocated Rs 5,138 crore. Last year, the city had received Rs 4,753 crore against its demand of Rs 5,200 crore. But the hopes of the Chandigarh MC have been dashed because it didn’t get the share in Budget as it had asked for. For a financially struggling MC, the Budget didn’t bring the much-needed relief. Although the UT is yet to officially declare the MC’s share (grant-in-aid) in the total Budget allocation for the city, a rough estimate reveals that the civic body will not get more than Rs 425 crore — far too less than projected Rs 1,350 crore, which was calculated according to the Delhi Finance Commission’s report. The MC needs sufficient funds to maintain roads, parks, buildings and other infrastructure and should be allocated more funds.
