Cases of robbery and dacoity have also declined, coming down from 18 last year to 12 this year.
Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Arya went on credit the positive development of dropping crime rate in the district to the formation of four specialised crime units, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Himadri Kaushik.
“These specialised crime units, alongside efforts at the police station level, have been key in combating crime through strategic measures and continuous monitoring. In recognition of their hard work, officers are periodically rewarded for their contributions to crime reduction,” a police spokesperson said.
The police added that teams have also focused on increasing security measures district-wide, including a 24-hour blockade and intensified patrolling. A total of 11 special checkpoints have been established at key locations to monitor vehicles and individuals rigorously.
The further integration of advanced technology has also played a crucial role in tracking and recording all types of traffic violations, contributing to a decrease in theft incidents.
“Additionally, cases of extortion were halved, from 12 last year to 6 this year, reflecting a broader reduction in criminal activity,” the police spokesperson further added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Himadri Kaushik emphasised that the police’s efforts extend beyond just responding to crimes.
“Our goal is to not only curb criminal activity but to address its root causes by transforming the societal mindset,” the DCP said.
