‘Not the first time’

Ravinder Singh Bassi, president of the Lawyers for Humanity, said it was not the first time Baba made such misleading statements. Earlier, he allegedly claimed that he had developed an Ayurvedic medicine, Coronil, for the treatment of Covid-19 and called a press conference. Later, he said it was not a medicine, but an immunity booster.

In the complaint, Verma said the alleged statement of Baba Ramdev calling doctors “foolish people” and allopathy as “pseudo science” was a serious matter. By doing so, he played with the health of people and violated various guidelines and laws.

Verma said Baba Ramdev had tried to sabotage the services provided by doctors and allopathy hospitals in the state of medical emergency and also tried to break the confidence of people in allopathy. His statement had demoralised doctors, nurses and frontline workers, who had been working hard for the past two years and putting their lives at risk. Over 200 doctors had laid down their lives while fighting this pandemic.
