Faculty and staff of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) met under the chairmanship of Professor RP Bambah, chairman, Governing Body, today to mourn the death of Bharat Ratna former President Pranab Mukherjee.
Prof RP Bambah said Pranab Mukherjee made the most valuable contribution in the development of academic and other related activities of the CRRID not only as a minister but as a great scholar. He visited the institute every time he was requested to participate in various programmes organised by the CRRID, particularly pertaining to peace, harmony and security in South and Central Asia.
Prof RS Ghuman, Senior Professor, CRRID, while remembering the former President, said peace and harmony were dear to him and he upheld the values throughout his life.
Professor Sucha Singh Gill, Senior Professor, CRRID, said he was a “Sankat Mochan” to bring harmony between the government and the opposition whenever there was a conflict in the Parliament. He had a great capacity to accommodate dissenting voices and strengthen democracy in the country.
Dr Rashpal Malhotra, executive vice-chairman, said it was a personal loss to him. He had an opportunity to closely work with him. The CRRID faculty and the staff would miss him for his valuable and friendly interactive sessions he had with them during his several visits as a minister as well as the President, he said.
A two-minute silence was observed by all present to pay tributes to him.
