The Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) today transferred the technology for production of dynamic postural stability assessment system (DPASS) developed by it to a Mohali-based firm for the system’s commercial production and marketing.

The DPASS is required for medical and therapeutic applications and has the capability for assessment of dynamic postural stability and fall prediction which is a technological intervention to detect postural abnormality.

The system will also provide bio-feedback along with a vibrational feedback to the user to measure and correct the dynamic posture.

There is a strong correlation between the body’s postural stability index and fall assessment of individuals. The system would evaluate and establish the sway estimation under different neuro-motor disorders.

It would have the potential to asses the balance with standard tests, including ‘clinical test of sensory interaction on balance’ and ‘balance error scoring system.’

Prof RK Sinha, Director, CSIO, said the static postural assessment system developed at the biomedical instrumentation unit has been successfully commercialised and the DPASS is the next technological uptake developed in continuation with the static system.

Dr IP Singh, director of the Mohali-based firm said the dynamic assessment and therapeutic modules would benefit a common man during the treatment and rehabilitation of the patients with static and dynamic balance disorders.

He said similar imported machines would cost a lot, difficult to maintain and customise as per patient.
