The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has turned down a proposal by the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) to source fuel for its buses from CITCO-operated petrol pumps. The matter was deliberated during the CITCO Board of Directors meeting held here today.

Underlining logistical challenges in accepting the proposal, officials stated that CTU procures fuel directly from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) pumps located within the depots and it would be not viable to procure fuel from CITCO pumps located at faraway places. Officials, however, suggested that if CITCO could arrange fuel delivery to CTU depots using a 3,000-litre mini oil tanker, the department would consider the arrangement. CITCO operates seven petrol pumps across the city, while CTU’s fleet of over 450 buses consumes approximately 36,000 litres of diesel daily, worth around Rs 30 lakh.

CITCO is set to start the renovation of its Hotel Mountview in Sector 10 and Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17 from next financial year, with an estimated budget of Rs 5.5 crore. The decision was approved during the Board of Directors meeting chaired by Ajay Chagti.

The proposal has been submitted to the UT Administration for approval. Officials stated that the renovation would be conducted in phases, focusing on modernising 65 rooms across the two hotels. Rs 3 crore would be allocated for Hotel Mountview and Rs 2.5 crore for Hotel Shivalikview.

In the first phase, 25 out of 155 rooms in Hotel Mountview and 40 out of 108 rooms in Hotel Shivalikview will be upgraded. The upgrade include refurbished furniture, new curtains and upholstery and upgraded amenities to meet the international standards. Once the expenditure is approved, tenders for the work will be floated within a month and the project is expected to be completed in 10 months.

A board member noted, “The renovation is long overdue. Upgrading the rooms and suites is essential to remain competitive and provide five-star level facilities.”

Health club at Parkview

A health club at Hotel Parkview in Sector 24 is non-operational for the past four years due to the lack of bidders to lease out the space. Officials informed the CITCO Board of Directors that two attempts failed to attract interest. The corporation now plans to reissue the tender at a reduced reserve price of Rs 73 per sq ft.
