Curtains come down on 2-day equestrian fest

A tent pegging event underway on the concluding day of the equestrian festival in Karoran village of Mohali on Sunday.

The first equestrian festival of Punjab concluded at Karoran village today with the participation of about 250 horses of Marwari and Nukra breeds.

The two-day event, organised by the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Mohali district administration, attracted horse breeders and lovers from the region. As many as 34 competitions were held during the two days.

Ankit Kumar with Kajal won the individual tent pegging competition. In tent pegging team sword competitions, team A of Parminder Singh, Ankit Kumar, Shivpal and Lakhwinder Singh stood first, team B of Lakhwinder Singh, Jagjit Singh, Jatinder Singh and Sharanveer Singh came second and team C of Mankaran Singh, Aslam, Jagjit and Neeraj bagged the third position. In Stallion Marwari Ring competition, Shavtesh (Sandeep Brar) stood first, Golden Khalifa (Amarinder Singh) bagged the second place and Buland (Jatinder Singh) settled for the third spot.

In the milk teeth colt, Jangi Pehlwan won the first prize with Bharat Kesari, Amarinder Singh Maan won the second prize with Inder and Sukhjinder Singh bagged the third prize with Raj Ratna. In individual dressage, Richpal Singh won first place with Summer Air while Dhruv’s Kabir won the two-teeth colt competition.

In the medley relay-team event, Harpal, Sandeep and Jitinder stood first, Kapinder, Anshpreet and Parminder came second, and Varinder, Gurtaj and Lakhwinder bagged the third place.

Kuljinder’s Channo, Harbhupinderjit Singh’s Heer and Sukhraj Singh Grewal’s Maharani won the top three positions in the mare Nukra ring competition. In tent-pegging sword competition, Kajal of Ankit (Indian Navy) won the first place, Krishama of Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh (Punjab Police) stood second and Chandni of Lakhwinder Singh (Indian Navy) third.

In dressage elementary, Mirza of Anshpreet Singh (CRPF), Nawab of Mankeerat Singh and Akash of Head Constable Sandeep Singh bagged the top three honours. Baljit Singh’s Kaka won the stallion Nukra ring competition followed by Bir Davinder’s Raj Guljar and Inder Tung’s Heera. Sandeep Brar’s Nagmani was ranked first, Sukhjinder Singh’s Gajveen second and Baba Gagandeep Singh’s Sage third in the Marwari ring competition.
