Mohali, June 3
A 45-year-old man was killed in a road accident after a car hit his cycle from behind on Airport Road yesterday.
The victim has been identified as Bhajan Harijan, a resident of Sector 68. The deceased was working as a labourer in Aerocity, Mohali. The incident took place when the victim was returning home from Aerocity and his son-in-law and wife were following him on another cycle.
A car hit the victim’s cycle from the rear side following which Bhajan tossed in the air and fell on the car’s windshield. Bhajan sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body. The car driver took the victim to a private hospital in Sohana and then fled the spot, leaving his car behind.
Bhajan was subsequently referred to the PGI where he died last night.
“The car has been recovered by the police from the hospital parking. The accused will be arrested soon,” said ASI Harjinder Singh.
A case has been registered under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code at the Sohana police station.
