Dera Bassi: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly robbed a cyclist near Kuranwala village here on Tuesday night. Sources said the victim, Deepak, who works in a private firm, was returning to his village around 8 pm when the miscreants intercepted him. He told the police that they snatched his wallet containing Rs 10,000 and also took away his bicycle. The police are looking into the matter. OC

Three nabbed for snatchings
Ambala: The police have arrested two juveniles, among three persons, in separate cases of snatching and claimed to have recovered snatched cash from their possession. According to the police, two juveniles were arrested for snatching a mobile phone from a woman near Shiva Temple in Ambala City on January 27. They were produced before a court, which sent them to the Juvenile Observation Home. In a separate case, Jatinder Singh, alias Monu, was arrested for snatching a purse from a woman near Jandli flyover in Ambala City on January 6. The snatched cash has been recovered from the suspect, claimed officials, adding that the suspect was sent to 14-day judicial remand. TNS
Three UP natives held for thefts
Ambala: The police have arrested three persons in separate cases of theft, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Farman and Arshad of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh were arrested for stealing four cattle of Harjit Singh from his home in Saha near here on the intervening night of January 21 and 22. Both suspects were remanded to four-day police custody. In a separate case, Gurtej Singh of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh was arrested for stealing a motorcycle of Ashu from the post office on the Mall Road in Ambala Cantonment on August 7 last. He was remanded to three-day police custody by a local court, the officials said. TNS
Two arrested on assault charge
Ambala: The police have arrested two persons in separate cases of assault and criminal intimidation, officials said here on Wednesday. According to the police, Vishal, alias Hathi, of Ambala Cantonment was arrested for assaulting and threatening Rithik, a resident of Mahesh Nagar near here, with dire consequences in Ambala City on January 10. In a separate case, Gurbaz, alias Kala, of Ambala City was arrested for assaulting and threatening Johny and his friend of Ambala City with dire consequences at gunpoint on January 25. Both suspects will be produced before courts on Thursday, the officials added. TNS
Two persons go missing in Ambala
Ambala: A married woman was among two persons who had reportedly gone missing from their respective places, the police said here on Wednesday. According to information, Shubham Kumar of Shahzadpur near here had reported to the police that his 23-year-old wife had left home on January 28 but did not return yet. In a separate case, Ram Avtar of Mullana near here had reported that his 52-year-old father, Baljit Singh, had been missing from home since January 20. The police have lodged missing reports. TNS
Man ends life
Kharar: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar here on Wednesday. Kharar City SHO Bhagwant Singh said Kamalpreet Singh (32) was mentally disturbed and both his parents had already died. He is survived by his wife and a 10-month-old son. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. OC

Redbacks win cricket championship
Chandigarh: ASRS Redbacks defeated Cricket Lovers by 26 runs to win the Corporate Cricket League Season II. Batting first, ASRS Redbacks made 193/6 in 20 overs. Cricket Lovers, in reply, could only manage 167/7 in the allotted overs. Umesh Khaira was named Man of the Series, while Michael Vishal was adjudged the Best Batsman. Aniket was named the Best Bowler. The tournament was organised by Desh Bhagat University with aim to raise funds for the girl education and promotion of sports. TNS
