A group of local residents today met Debendra Dalai, Director, Environment Department, UT, and demanded that an air purification tower should be set up in Dadu Majra.
In a memorandum of demand, they stated that such a tower would provide relief to residents of Dadu Majra, Dhanas and Sectors 14, 15, 37, 38 and 39 from gases emanating from the dumping ground.
Dyal Krishan, president, Dumping Ground Joint Action Committee, said as the dumping ground and the waste processing plant were situated in the vicinity, garbage vehicles keep plying in the Dadu Majra area. “Smoke emanating from these vehicles cause air pollution in the area and the neighbouring sectors. Residents of areas near the dumping ground are already bearing with poisonous gases and foul smell. Dadu Majra residents are the ones who need an air purifier the most in the city,” he added.
The UT Administration has set up an air purification tower at the Transport Chowk on a trial basis. If it works out well, more such towers will be planned for the city.
