The controversy surrounding appointment of DAV College, Sector 10, principal got bigger as officiating principal Jyotirmaya Khatri was relieved of the charge on March 13. Within hours of Khatri’s request for relieving him from the post due to personal reasons, the charge of the principal has been transferred to the next senior most faculty member, Mona Narang, Associate Professor, Mathematics Department.

For the past many days, the Chandigarh-Aided College Teachers’ Association (CACTA) had been protesting against Khatri for allotting college’s room No. 104 to the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU). The teachers had been holding a daily two-hour-long protest. However, as per sources, the matter escalated today as students playing Holi entered the college premises, affecting the protest.

“The former principal was present at the same venue when all this happened, but denied giving any permission to students for celebrating Holi on the campus. Later, it was found that the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) had issued the permission while the former head maintained that he was unaware about the same. During this time, videos and pictures of the Holi celebration had been sent to the members of the managing committee, and thereafter all this happened,” claimed a source.
