Day after protest, Chandigarh Congress chief among others booked

The police today booked city Congress president Subhash Chawla among other party leaders for violating the Covid guidelines and disobeying the orders of the District Magistrate, UT. They had assembled for a protest near a Sector 21 filling station and near the new labour chowk, towards Sector 34, yesterday.

On June 11, the protesters, including activists from the Congress, the NSUI, the Youth Congress, the Mahila Congress, the Seva Dal and INTUC, made a human chain. Carrying placards, they raised slogans against the BJP-led Central Government.

They were demanding immediate rollback of the hike in fuel prices.

A case under Sections 188, 269 and 270 of the IPC and Section 51(A) of the Disaster Management Act-2005 has been registered at the Sector 19 and Sector 34 police stations. Shashi Shankar Tiwari, Inder Pal, Naresh Kumar were among those booked.
