After classes were disrupted for four days due to waterlogging at the Government High Smart School, Desumajra, Kharar, authorities swung into action and sent municipal council staff to clear the slush from classes and school complex.

Studies of nearly 1,000 children were affected due to waterlogging caused by rainwater and sewage here.

The MC staff reached the school early this morning and began cleaning up the premises. Stagnant water was pumped out of the playground and slush cleared from classrooms. Foul smell had started emanating due to the stagnant water, which had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Local councillors had reportedly deployed an earthmoving machine and dug up the road to create passage for stagnant water. A water outlet drain of the NHAI, near the Desumajra flyover, was also said to be adding to the problem.

Locals said the villagers were not ready to close the water outlet on the road. One more spell of rain could again jeopardise the studies of children here, they said.
