DC launches tree plantation drive to make Fatehgarh Sahib a green district

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Sona Thind today formally launched a tree plantation drive by planting a sapling with the aim to make Fatehgarh Sahib District a “green district”.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that under the campaign of planting trees, different types of shade, flowering and fruit trees are being planted in vacant places, religious places, cremation grounds, playgrounds and in schools to make the district green.

She said it was the need of the hour to plant trees so that a pollution-free environment can be ensured for our future generations, adding, “It is the primary duty of all of us to ensure the conservation of natural resources to make air, water and earth pollution-free.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Harpreet Singh also planted tree saplings on the occasion, further saying, “When these trees grow, they will not only protect the upper surface of the earth from erosion, but will also become a means for the growth of living beings and most importantly, will prove helpful in the production of oxygen.”
