DC urged to postpone mayoral poll
Mayor Kuldeep Kumar has again urged Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav to postpone the forthcoming mayoral elections till February 19. The DC has already announced the elections for the posts of mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor on January 24.
In a letter to the DC, the Mayor stated that the elections to the post of mayor for 2024 were conducted after the intervention of the Supreme Court on February 20, 2024, and as such the one-year term had not been completed. He requested that the election to the post of mayor may be postponed.
The Mayor further said that his tenure would get completed on February 19, and without paying heed to his previous requests and letters, the elections had now been scheduled to be conducted on January 24. Grave injustice would be done to him if the elections were not postponed, he added.
The AAP has already filed a petition in the HC, demanding that polling be done by raising of hands in place of voting through secret ballot.
