Decision on Mohali MC limits in 6 months, govt to High Court

The Senior Deputy Advocate General of Punjab has submitted in the court that the competent authority will take a decision on the 2021 notification regarding the fixation of the new boundaries of Mohali Municipal Corporation within the next six months.

Senior Deputy Advocate General of Punjab Navneet Singh, appearing for the respondent state of Punjab in a writ petition filed by Ram Kumar in the high court on November 25, stated that he does not dispute the fact that the matter was pending with the authorities.

Ram Kumar, a Phase-1 resident, had averred that the MC had resolved to take within its limits the adjoining developed areas so as to undertake the development of the said areas too in a planned way.

As per the resolution of MC House, the state government through the Local Government Department had issued a notification dated December 13, 2021, to include the proposed adjoining areas within MC limits and had sought objections from the people in the matter.

But before things could move further and attain finality, the model code came into force in the state and in February 2022 a new government came into being after which the said process of inclusion of said areas within the MC limits were halted.

The Local Govt. Office in 2023 had said that the issue in question was still under consideration of the govt. After waiting for more than one year when nothing did happen in the matter, a writ petition was filed.
