Two arrested for assault
Chandigarh: The police have arrested two persons for attacking a resident of Sector 25. Raju reported that Golu, Deepu, Binder and others allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons at his house. The police registered a case at the Sector 11 police station and started an investigation into the matter. During the investigation, the police arrested two accused, Binder (25) and Rampat

Carrom tourney from August 22
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Carrom Association will organise the Chandigarh State Carrom Tournament at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, from August 22 to 24. A total of six events, including men and women singles, boys & girls’ singles (junior under-18), will be organised during the tourney. Players born on or after September 24, 2006, and born on or after December 31, 2010, will be eligible to play in their respective age groups. The top eight position holders in each category will be awarded ranking points, which will be counted for selection of the UT team for the national championships for the current session. TNS

Wushu players win laurels
Chandigarh: The local Wushu team won five medals at the 23rd Junior National Championship that concluded in Coimbatore recently. Vanshika won gold in -56 kg (youth category), Shikha secured silver -48kg, Himanshi bagged bronze in -60 kg junior category and Anu settled for bronze in the -48 kg (youth category). Rekha won bronze in the -56kg junior category. TNS

Shooting c’ship from August 8
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Rifle Association will organise the 49th Chandigarh State Shooting Championship-2024 from August 8 to 12 at the Sector 25 shooting ranges. The competition will be conducted for the events of .177 air rifle/pistol, .22 rifle, .22 standard pistol, .22 free pistol, .22 sports pistol and centre fire pistol events for different age groups of men and women. The shooters scoring minimum qualifying scores will represent Chandigarh in the forthcoming XXXIII All India GV Mavalankar Shooting Championship in Rifle and Pistol Events and 43rd North Zone Shooting Championship.
