Delegation meets Punjab Guv over pension anomaly

A delegation led by BJP national executive member and co-incharge of Himachal Pradesh Sanjay Tandon today met Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and submitted a memorandum, demanding resolution of pension anomalies being faced by Chandigarh government-aided school employees.

The delegation pointed out that the Central Government had replaced the Teachers’ Benefit Scheme (TBS) with the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, through a notification issued on February 10, 1998, but employees in Chandigarh were still being paid pensions under the old TBS formula. “In other union territories, the CCS Rules have been implemented, but in Chandigarh, government-aided school employees are still suffering due to this anomaly,” the memorandum stated.

The members highlighted that under the old scheme, employees were receiving very low pensions — much less than the minimum prescribed level — despite the fact that every Pay Commission mandates revisions. They demanded the immediate implementation of liberal pension rules as in other UTs.

The UT Administrator assured the delegation that the matter would be checked on a priority basis and appropriate instructions would be issued soon. — TNS
