Mohali, February 14
The airlines operators have seen an opportunity to boost their business amidst the farmer-government confrontation.
Alliance Air is operating an additional flight from Chandigarh to Delhi in the wake of increased passenger load from February 13 to 17. The Delhi-Chandigarh flight takes off at 9.15 pm and the Chandigarh-Delhi 9.45 pm. Over the past two days, the airfare to Delhi has increased around five times. A Chandigarh-Delhi ticket which came for Rs 3,018 earlier is now priced around Rs 10,000-17,000.
Airlines operators said the flexi price was applicable to the Chandigarh-Delhi route. The tickets of flights from Chandigarh to other destinations were available at a regular price, they added.
The Delhi-Chandigarh flight fare is expected to remain high till February 21.
Meanwhile, taxi operators are also charging more from Delhi-bound passengers in view of detours. The footfall at the SAS Nagar railway station was more than unusual today.
Passengers said train travel appeared more reliable than travelling by a bus. “Although getting a train ticket is a hassle, but once you get it you won’t face any hiccup during the journey,” said Rajni Devi, who was going to Ambala.
With many farmers union announcing blockage of train tracks across Punjab, commuters are set to face a challenging time with focus back on buses and taxis as means of transport in the state.
