Delhi police nab shooters ‘involved in Morni killings’
After a series of raids across five states and a chase of more than 5,000 km, the special cell of the Delhi Police nabbed two sharp shooters of the Kapil Sangwan gang from Bengaluru. They were allegedly involved in multiple sensational firing incidents, including the Sultanat resort murders on the Morni Road in Panchkula.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sahil, alias Poli; and Vijay Gahlot, alias Kalu.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Manoj C said the accused were wanted in sensational broad daylight murders in Tilak Nagar and Kakrola in Delhi and the triple murder case of the Morni Road in Panchkula.
“Both accused have been close aides and most trustworthy operatives of fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu,” he said.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer, who wished not to be named, said that the accused were being brought to Delhi on transit remand. “Whether they were directly involved or were themselves the shooters in the Panchkula triple murder case can only be ascertained after we put them through interrogation,” the official said.
Sangwan is a fugitive gangster based in the United Kingdom who has been involved in a dozen cases of murder, extortion, among others, including the murder of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Haryana unit chief Nafe Singh Rathee.
As the police began tracking the accused duo, a series of raids were conducted at their multiple suspected hideouts in Haryana, UP, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab by tracking their movements which was established through sources and technical surveillance.
While the cops continued their investigation for months, a crucial input regarding their whereabouts in Bengaluru, Karnataka, was recently received by the Delhi Police following which a team was dispatched to the southern state from where the accused duo were caught.
Around 2:30 am on the night of December 23, Vinit Gahlot, alias Vicky Mitrau, a gangster with ties to the Manjeet Mahal gang, was killed by two assailants as he stepped out of the resort after attending a birthday party. His 17-year-old nephew, Tirath, who rushed to save him, was also shot dead by the assailants. The third victim, 22-year-old Vandana, was also hit by a bullet on the chest.
