Local Bodies Department, Punjab, has approved the mechanical sweeping of roads in the Municipal Corporation area for three years at an estimated cost of more than Rs. 12.72 crore.
Now the agenda for inviting bids would be presented before the General House meeting of the MC to be held on Monday after which tenders would be floated.
Divulging details, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said the MC had passed a resolution to outsource the mechanical sweeping of A and B category roads in the MC area. The agenda passed by the House on December 14 last year was sent to the department for approval. He said tenders were invited and eight companies had submitted their temporary bids. The MC prepared an estimate cost of the work at Rs. 22.87 crore for five years after receiving the lowest bid of Rs. 710 per km, and the same was sent to the department for approval.
Bedi said the other items on the agenda included hiring an EPF consultant for allotting the EPS Code to employees transferred to the corporation so that their provident fund could be deducted and deposited as per the instructions of the government.
