Chandigarh, February 8
The UT Excise Department conducted inspections at the godowns of four bottling plants and 10 retail liquor vends across the city and confiscated a total of 1,483 bottles over irregularities.
Eight teams comprising excise and taxation officers (ETOs) and inspectors carried out the inspections at the godowns of M/s Singla Wines, M/s Anant Wines, M/s Castle Spirits and M/s Whistler Spirits.
During the inspections, a range of liquor stocks, including Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) and wine, was scrutinised. The teams found several irregularities, including liquor stock lacking holograms, valid permits and approved labels for the current year. As many as 1,483 liquor bottles were confiscated. “Subsequent actions will be taken by following due process and ensuring fair hearing to the licensees concerned,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, Excise and Taxation Commissioner.
