A 22-year-old employee of a paper mill died after he hit a machine while working here this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Raman Walia, a resident of Mirpur. The youth was employed in the maintenance department of Vishal Papertech India Limited on the Mubarikpur-Ramgarh road recently. Family members alleged that the youth died due to negligence on the part of the management and lack of adequate safety measures. They have lodged a complaint with the police seeking the registration of a case against the management.

The family members created a commotion at the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital and blocked the Mubarikpur-Ramgarh road for close to an hour. The police reached the spot and pacified the family.

Dera Bassi SHO Kulbir Singh said, “The body has been taken into possession and an investigation into the matter has begun. The cause of the accident is being investigated.”

The unit management claimed that they were probing why the youth went near the machine. Kin alleged that after the accident, the management did not inform the family and took the victim to the hospital. After that there was no communication. They alleged that the CCTV footage was not being provided to them.
