Dera Bassi: 5-year-old Girl dies of snakebite

Dera Bassi: A five-year-old girl died of snakebite at Paragpur village here on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Amandeep Kaur, daughter of Krishan Singh. He said around 4 am on Saturday night, the girl started vomiting and lost consciousness. He took her to the government hospital in Dera Bassi. The doctors started treatment and kept her at the hospital for about 2 hours. Finally, they referred her to the GMCH-32. On reaching there, the doctors declared the child dead. TNS

Marathi feature film screened

Chandigarh: A special screening of Marathi feature film “Y” was organised here on Saturday evening. The film “Y” is based on the issue of female foeticides and takes a hard look at the mentality behind it. The screening was held in the presence of senior officers of Haryana and Punjab and people from Maharashtra mandal in Chandigarh, their family members, friends and the cast of the film – Mukta Barve, Prajakta Mali and Nandu Madhav. Director of the film Ajit Suryakant Wadikar was also present. “Y” deals with the age-old issue of male dominance. The screening was organised by IAS officers Makrand Khetmalis and Nilkanth Avadh. Yuvan wins tennis semis

Chandigarh: Yuvan defeated Dhairya Chaudhary 7-6(4) in a combined U-16 group semi-final during the Roots Open Tennis Championship. Earlier in the quarterfinals, Yuvan defeated Purahan Gupta (6-4) and Chaudhary defeated Ayush Gupta (6-1). In the boys’ U-12 semis, Adeshbir Singh defeated Vivaan (6-3) and Mahijith Singh overpowered Samarth (6-4). Adeshbir Singh defeated Mahijith Singh (23-21) in one of the boys’ U-10 semis, whereas Bhavik Sharma outplayed Abeer Singh (21-15). TNS

PU CET (PG) entrance test

Chandigarh: Panjab University conducted the PU CET (PG) entrance test for admission to 20 different courses on Sunday. As many as 82.16 per cent candidates appeared for the test. The test was conducted satisfactorily and no untoward incident was reported from any of the examination centres, said a spokesperson for the university. As many as eight centres were made, including five at the local campus and one each at Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Sri Muktsar Sahib. TNS

Culinary training programme held

Mohali: The Chitkara College of Hospitality Management, Chitkara University, Punjab, organised a US Cranberry Culinary Training Programme on Sunday. It gave students an opportunity to experience live cooking demos by some of the India’s renowned chefs showcasing their innovative culinary skills using the star ingredient of the day – cranberry.
