Three masked men robbed a Dera Bassi resident of Rs 5000 cash and a gold ring at knifepoint near Bakarpur village on Sunday.

Victim Rakesh Dhiman, a resident of SBP Homes and an owner of a hardware store near grain market, was going to Bakarpur on his scooty when three masked youths stopped him, pointed a knife at him and took away Rs 5,000 from his pocket.

The suspects demanded the gold ring from him but the victim expressed helplessness as it was tight. The youths then threatened him of cutting his finger and also slashed his hand after which the victim took it off and gave it away. Before fleeing, they also took away the key of his scooty.

Dhiman later reached Dera Bassi and recounted the incident to his near and dear ones. The police said they were investigating the matter.
