Dhanteras, Diwali festivities draw shoppers to Mohali markets in droves

Despite gold and silver rates touching new highs, local residents did not hesitate to buy gold and silver on the occasion of Dhanteras.

The 22 karat gold rates in the Tricity were at Rs 1,21, 500while 24 karat gold was pegged at 1,36,000 per 10gm. The rate of silver today was at Rs 2 lakhs per kg.

Sarabjit Singh Paras, who owns a jewellery shop Phase-7 said, “The enthusiasm in people was as it is, there is no lull in sale and purchase of gold and silver across the city. In fact, ladies bracelet, Italian design jewelry was the most sought after. There is a new trend among customers to buy jewelry of designs from other states, so there was no let-up in sale today.”

Jewelers said the sale is going to be on the higher side around the Dhanteras and Diwali festivities, with one of them adding that the businesses is expected to peak in the next three to four days.
