Following the outbreak of diarrhoea in the Kooranwala area, a total of 265 persons visited OPDs. Six of them were running fever and 32 were diagnosed with diarrhoea.

Eight patients were referred to the local Civil Hospital due to dehydration. Five water samples were collected from the affected colonies, the report of which is yet to be received.

A team from the Civil Surgeon’s office in Mohali took two stool samples and four blood samples and sent them to the district laboratory. Dera Bassi SDM Kuldeep Bawa and Senior Medical Officer of Block Dera Bassi Sangeeta Jain visited the area.

Most houses have underground tanks for storing drinking water which were found to be lacking in sanitation. Bawa asked the owners of the colonies to cut off the water supply and provide clean water from outside.

A medical camp was organised and a survey of the colonies was also conducted. Teams, led by sanitary inspector Rajinder Singh, conducted a door-to-door survey during which 400 houses were visited, 350 packets of ORS and 1,500 chlorine tablets were distributed.
