Digging in monsoon spells chaos for road users in Mohali Phase-11 market
The laying of stormwater drain at the Phase-11 market road amid the ongoing monsoon season has spelled chaos in the area, leaving commuters and local residents to suffer the brunt.
Mounds of dug up earth on the road and open drains near the temple have made the road unsafe and congested near the traffic lights. It has not only become a permanent eyesore but also poses risk to the commters.
“It has been more than one month that the crater was dug up in the middle of the market near a traffic light point. Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission is in full swing here. This is how government is solving the problem of waterlogging in rainy season. Shouldn’t this work be finished before the monsoon season?” Baljit Singh, who owns a shop in the vicinity, said.
Residents added that the digging work resulted in a bottleneck right in front of the traffic lights. Loaded tractor trolleys get stuck up in the slush, holding up the traffic.Two-wheeler riders, meanwhile, fear to tread the stretch as slush and congested road poses the threat of skidding. “After school, riders find it extremely difficult to negotiate the slippery stretch with kids,” said Jaspreet Dhillon, a local resident.
The laying of drainage has been progerssing at a snail’s pace. Residents fear that it will take months to complete the work, ruing the lack of initiative being shown by the Municipal Corporation as well as the Administration.
