Diljit show: Admn initiates action over breach of noise limit

The UT Administration has started the process for initiating action over the violation of noise pollution norms during Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s show at Sector 34 on December 14.

The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) has submitted its report regarding the violation of noise pollution norms during to the concert to the Deputy Commissioner.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed that noise levels at the concert should not exceed 75 decibels and had further directed penal action if the limit was breached.

According to the report submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the CPCC found that noise levels during the event ranged between 70 and 82 decibels, violating the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said, “We have received the report from the pollution control committee. It will be submitted to the adjudicating officer (Environment Secretary), who will hold a hearing before taking further action.”

During resumed hearing, the compliance report would be submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 18, he added.

The High Court had directed to submit the compliance report by December 18.
