Around 450 citizens took part in disaster preparedness training sessions at two places in the district today.
The sessions were held under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner and Civil Defence Controller Monika Gupta. The training sessions held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula, and ITI in Bitna, Pinjore, saw participation by teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire services, Red Cross, Health Department and Civil Defence.
The DC stated that approximately 200 people in Panchkula and 250 in Bitna received hands-on training in rescue techniques and in assisting citizens during disasters, with an emphasis on minimising loss of life and property.
Around 1,500 residents have already registered online for the disaster preparedness training programme.
The participants were trained and made aware of how to respond to disasters such as fires, air raids, earthquakes and floods.
They were taught practical skills to help safeguard lives during any type of disaster. The training also included comprehensive information on flood preparedness, helping trainees to protect themselves and others and spreading awareness during such events.
Officer Tarsem from the Fire Department explained how to safely open doors in case of a fire. Following this, the NDRF team imparted training on how to protect the head during a disaster. The Red Cross Society, Panchkula, along with the Health Department from Sector 6, also provided detailed guidance to the participants.
Later, Disaster Management Superintendent Engineer Sukhdev Singh’s team conducted hands-on training in rescue operations, helping people understand how to assist others during emergencies and minimise loss.
The Deputy Commissioner said individuals aged between 18 and 50 years can participate in the training programmes. Preference will be given to applicants, who have at least cleared Class 10, although those who have not may also undergo training in disaster response.
