DNA test belies claim of baby-swapping
The DNA test conducted on Karnal resident Sandeep Singh and his wife Ramanpreet Kaur has confirmed them as the biological parents of the newborn girl at the centre of baby-swapping allegations.
The report, which was opened in the presence of police officials, established that the accusations were false.
The father had reportedly approached the Haryana Chief Minister office with his greviance, after which it requested the Mohali police to probe the matter.
Following the report, the couple accepted the baby as their own. Addressing a press conference, Gagandeep Singh Sachdeva, CEO of Sohana Hospital, and Adarsh Suri, Chief Administrator, said such an instance of misunderstanding had taken place for the first time at the hospital. “As soon as the allegations were raised, DNA samples were collected under police supervision and sent to an external lab for testing. The report has now put all doubts to rest,” they added.
The hospital took complete care of the newborn throughout the process and emphasised that there should be no discrimination between boys and girls. “Every child, regardless of gender, is a blessing to both family and society,” the hospital officials maintained, highlighting that the case reflected deep-rooted gender biases in society and appealed to the public to foster equality and respect for all children.
Sohana SHO Amanpreet Singh said the DNA report proved no swapping had taken place and the entire matter arose due to a misunderstanding.
