Dog, bomb-detection squads carry out searches at Chandigarh, Mohali railway stations

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) had pressed into service their dog and bomb detection squads at the Chandigarh and Mohali railway stations in view of the Bharat Bandh call given for the protest against the Agnipath, the armed forces recruitment scheme.
The railway authorities announced the cancellation of trains, which included Chandigarh-Patiliputra Express (22356), for two days on June 20 and 21, and Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train (15904) on June 22.
Inspector Manisha Kumari, SHO, GRP, said, “The GRP has conducted flag march at the Chandigarh railway station and searched for anti-social elements. Fifty officials conducted the flag march and carried out security checks throughout the day at the railway station in the wake of protest.”
Amarinderjit Singh, SHO, RPF, Chandigarh, said they had beefed up security at railway stations and in trains for the safety of passengers in view of the Bharat Bandh call. He said they had searched every nook and corner of the railway platforms and passengers were also frisked for checking their luggage. He said no untoward incident was reported during the day. At Mohali railway station too, the RPF and the GRP conducted checks at platforms especially during the arrival and departure of trains.
Meanwhile, there was no effect of the Bharat Bandh call in Mohali district as all shops opened and functioned normally.
