Chandigarh, May 29
The Chandigarh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that the Municipal Corporation (MC) should not extend the annual contract of Lion Services Limited for cleaning southern city roads without calling fresh tenders.
“The company is paid Rs4 crore per month, which is exorbitant. Public feedback about company’s performance should be taken,” the AAP added.
The AAP Chandigarh convenor, Prem Garg, demanded performance audit of the company to know how many resources were deployed by it if roads were to be washed and whether these were actually washed at the promised frequency. If so, from where and how much water was procured? said Garg.
“Moreover, financial prudence demands that fresh tenders be called to allow fair competition and economy of expenditure,” Garg added.
The AAP also demanded that all terms and conditions of such contracts with private contractors must be put in the public domain. This would enable citizens to give feedback on the performance of such contractors to the authorities concerned, the AAP added. The agenda regarding the sanitation contract will be tabled in Monday’s House meeting of the MC. — TNS
