The district administration will hold the draw of lots for issuing provisional licences to sell green crackers in the district ahead of the Diwali and Gurupurab on October 9.

All the interested traders can apply for the crackers license on the Punjab government’s dedicated portal at the sewa kendras on September 23, 24 and 25.

According to the official guidleines, a single individual is allowed to apply for only one license, the officials further informed .

Last year, 1,611 applications were received for provisional licences. Of the total applications, 1,600 were found eligible.

Notably, as many as 44 provisional licenses were allotted last year. For the allotted four licences, for Mohali and Banur, 50 applications were received.

Similarly, for Kharar, Kurali and Nayagaon areas, 21 were applications to set up green cracker stalls were received. Meanwhile, another 209 applications were received from Dera Bassi, Lalru and Zirakpur areas.

Only 13 places were allotted for the sale of firecrackers in the district druing last year’s celebrations.
