A routine police checking escalated into a high-speed chase in Sector 20, Panchkula, when a driver rammed his loaded truck into a police vehicle, leaving three constables injured. The driver, who was attempting to flee, was detained between Sector 20, Panchkula, and the Punjab border.

The driver, who rammed truck into police vehicle near Chandimandir, on the Kalka-Panchkula highway on Thursday.

According to officials, ACP Shukarpal signalled the driver to stop truck for a routine inspection at the Chandimandir toll plaza. Instead of halting the truck, the driver sped away. Sensing something suspicious, police teams, including two mobile ERVs, pursued the vehicle. The chase ended near the Punjab border in Sector 20 Panchkula, where the driver crashed truck into one of the police vehicles, leaving three constables injured. Driver fled as he did not have proper mining documents.

Sector 20 police station in-charge Sukhbir Singh confirmed that the driver attempted to escape because he did not have the necessary documents. “ACP Shukarpal was stationed at the Chandimandir toll plaza when the truck was signalled to stop. The driver fled, leading to a chase. Two emergency response vehicles (ERVs) were deployed. During pursuit, the truck rammed into one of the police vehicles, injuring three of our policemen,” he said.

The truck driver, identified as Narender, hails from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, was immediately taken into custody. The police would investigate further whether the vehicle was illegally transporting material without proper documentation. The injured policemen were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They were reported to be in a stable condition.
