Dust storm in Delhi, rush at Chandigarh airport

Six Delhi-bound flights had to be diverted to Chandigarh and other nearby airports as a severe dust storm hit the national capital this evening.

Srinagar-Delhi, Mumbai-Delhi, Darbhanga-Delhi flights landed here. One international flight, Kathmandu-Delhi, too, was diverted to the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport due to the bad weather. The flights diverted to the Chandigarh airport were from Aizawl, Agartala and Dibrugarh.

Similar was the situation at the Amritsar airport. Two international flights to Delhi from Hong Kong and Kathmandu were diverted to Raja Sansi International Airport in Amritsar in the evening.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi and the NCR for the next few hours.

“Due to inclement weather conditions in Delhi, some of the flights at Delhi Airport are impacted. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines,” an airlines posted on X.

The flights resumed their journey around 8:30 pm.
