Elderly man duped of Rs 50K at ATM booth in Dera Bassi

Dera Bassi: An elderly man was allegedly duped of Rs 50,000 by an unidentified youth at an ATM booth of a private bank here on Tuesday. Trilok Singh of Trivedi Camp, said he had gone to withdraw money from an ATM, but a youth present there took his card and swapped it with another. After sometime, he got messages on the phone that money had been withdrawn. The police are looking into the matter. TNS

UT best performer at open data week

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Smart City Limited has been selected as “best performer” at the open data week event conducted in January to encourage adoption of open data and promotion of innovation across the Indian urban ecosystem. 3 firefighters hurt, crop burnt

Dera Bassi: Three firefighters were injured while trying to douse flames in fields at Haibatpur village on Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials said around 10 acres of standing crop was burnt in the fire. Firefighters and village residents struggled for close to two hours before saving a nearby poultry farm from the fire. Fire officer Baljit Singh said information was recieved around 2 pm and two fire engines were rushed to the spot. Fire engines from Zirakpur too had to be rushed as strong winds fanned the fire in the fields. Firefighters Maninder Singh, Karanbir Singh and Puneet Kumar recieved burn injuries.
