Panchkula, February 24
The Haryana Government has hired the services of Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Limited, a joint venture of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the IDFC Foundation, to prepare a plan to run electric buses in the city.
The general manager of the Haryana Roadways in Panchkula, Ashok Kaushik, said that initially, the roadways would run five buses on a single route. He said, “We have hired the services of DIMTS to prepare a route plan for the public service in the city. The company is researching major areas with public traffic to identify the best available routes. As such, we will run all the buses in the initial phase on only one route to ensure that people can access the service on that one route with ease.”
Kaushik said that the state had already identified a piece of land for the new depot for electric buses at Sector 5, adding that the roadways had installed a 300 kV electricity supply line for the charging stations, vehicle chargers and others.
Third public transport service at Panchkula:
Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said the new service would be launched soon. He said, “It will be the third such initiative in the city since the BJP formed a government in the state. We established a bus depot here and launched 150 short-route and long-route buses. In 2020, we started 40 minibuses to ferry people within the city. The electric bus initiative will be the third such service, in which we will run a total of 50 buses in the city. The project will also help reduce pollution levels at Panchkula.”
