Encroachments removed from Phase 11 market
Officials said both temporary and permanent encroachments behind the market, footpath, green area and government land were removed
The joint teams of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), the Municipal Corporation and police officials today carried out a demolition drive to remove encroachments on the back side of the Phase 11 market and other areas.
Officials said both temporary and permanent encroachments behind the market, footpath, green area and government land were removed as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Civic body official Mandeep Singh said the anti-encroachment drive was being carried out in Mohali for the past around 10 days. Two earthmoving machines and heavy police force has been deployed to carry out the exercise.
Encroachments have been removed in Phase 4, Phase 5, and today Phase 11. Phase 11 resident AS Bhatia said fruit and vegetable market on GMADA encroached land was also removed today afternoon.
Officials maintained that the drive would continue in the city in the coming days.
The Municipal Commissioner had issued a public notice on November 28 to remove encroachments within next three days of their own else costs would be imposed on them. No separate notice of any kind to anyone will be issued after it, the notice had read.
The anti-encroachment drive is being carried out by the civic body and GMADA after Punjab and Haryana High Court orders in CWP No. 15892 of 2020 and COCP No. 4984 of 2025.
