Enhancement charges likely to be down by Rs 824 in Mohali
The anti-enhancement committee Sector 76-80 constituted two years ago to negotiate with the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) regarding enhancement charges today claimed that some relief in charges is likely in the coming days.
The convener, Sukhdev Singh Patwari, councillor Sarabjit Singh Samana, committee members, Rajiv Vashisht, Jarnail Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Charanjit Kaur and Major Singh said seven meeting under the leadership of Mohali Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulwant Singh have been ogranised with the Chief Minister (CM) and senior bureaucrats regarding this.
“The GMADA had earlier discussed the issue and communicated with the state government. They have also written to the finance department to bring down the enhancement charges by Rs 824 per sqm from roughly around Rs 3,164 to Rs 2,340,” Patwari said today.
Enhancement charge is the additional amount paid to landowners against acquisition by GMADA. The development authority in turn is taking the enhanced cost from the plot owners.
Patwari further claimed that the GMADA had earlier agreed to the reduction in enhancement charges by Rs 820 but some residents of Sector 76-80 had filed a case against Gmada in the High Court which led to further delay.
GMADA’s year 2000 scheme had 3,950 plots on 1,264 acres but it failed to acquire the land completely, complicating the process for allottees with possession of their plots.
Another outfit struggling for plot owners right, Sector 76-80 plot allotment welfare committee, headed by president Sucha Singh Kalaur, had also held a meeting with the GMADA to waive off the interest amount of Rs 288 crore but GMADA only agreed to negotiate on recovery of additional price of land in Sector 85 to 90.
