Ensure Aadhaar enrolment of kids: Chandigarh Chief Secretary to officials

UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma today reviewed Aadhaar progress with all department heads of the Administration and the Unique Identification Authority of India at the UT Secretariat.

Emphasising on the importance of achieving 100 per cent Aadhaar saturation across Chandigarh, all departments including banks and school education, were directed to activate all Aadhaar enrolment kits at the earliest.

Verma expressed concern over pendency of mandatory biometric update, which was to be done on attaining the age of five and 15 years. He directed officials to organise camps in all government and private schools for this purpose.

He said, “The School Education Department should organis campaigns to encourage parents and guardians for mandatory biometric update of children.” He directed officials to deploy Aadhaar kits at immunisation centres to ensure Aadhaar enrolment of the zero-five year age group. The Health Department and the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development was asked to facilitate Aadhaar enrolment of children under five years.

During the meeting, Commodore (IN) Dhiraj Sareen, DDG, UIDAI, Regional Office, Chandigarh, highlighted the latest amendments in Aadhaar SWIK (Social, Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) rules wherein hotels, hospitals and travel agencies could also use Aadhaar-based authentication subject to approval by the department concerned.
