Ensure better health services at govt hospitals, says Mohali Civil Surgeon

Head of every government hospital should ensure that the people have easy and hassle-free access to health check-up and treatment services, said Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh, at a monthly progress meeting of all the senior medical officers and programme officers of the district on Monday.

Dr ManjitSingh said any laxity in providing emergency and OPD services to the people will not be tolerated. He said stock of essential medicines should be available for at least three months in every government health institution. He, specifically, directed the doctors not to prescribe medicines which are available at outside chemist shops. He further said that patients should be given medicines from the hospital pharmacy itself. He said if no medicine is available at the hospital, it should be arranged and higher authorities be informed in time. No hospital should lack the necessary and emergency medicines, he added.

Emphasising the need for maximum training of staff for the prevention of diseases such as coronavirus, swine flu, dengue and malaria, Dr Manjit Singh said that even the ASHA workers should be sensitised so that awareness can be spread to the grassroots to combat these diseases. He asked the health authorities to monitor the health of the high-risk pregnant women in their area and to reach out to them if needed so that timely examination of such women would be ensured.

Dr Kuldeep Singh, Assistant Civil Surgeon; Dr Daljit Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner; Dr Veena Jarewal, District Immunisation Officer; and Dr Nidhi, District Family Planning Officer, were among the health officials present in the meeting.
