Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday inspected several rural areas for cleanliness, condition of roads and sewerage and other basic amenities.
He visited Factory Area, Parantha Market, Gurbaksh Colony, Chhoti and Waddi Nadi, Jhill, Tripuri, Bhadson Road and other surrounding localities where he closely examined parks, markets and residential areas. He also interacted with residents and listened to their problems.
Dr Balbir Singh directed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure road repairs, proper drainage of rainwater, park maintenance and an efficient sewerage system.
The minister said such inspections would now be conducted every week. He ordered that garbage must be collected twice a day to prevent accumulation and reduce the risk of diseases spreading.
Dr Balbir Singh instructed the Deputy Mayor Harinder Kohli to form ward-based committees to prepare plans for separate collection and management of wet and dry waste.
He also directed officials to ensure that water does not stagnate in any area, as it could become breeding ground for mosquitoes and spread of diseases such as dengue. The minister also appealed to citizens to avoid throwing garbage in public places.
