Less than two months after the Urban Primary Health Centre located in Sector 69 was inaugurated after Mohali MLA’s intervention, unidentified miscreants stole medical equipment, electrical wiring and other items from the facility on Monday night.

Crime prone area

Residents said the theft took place in the busy residential area with two schools having security guards. “Miscreants and anti-social element have no fear of the police. The area is well lit with residences in the neighbourhood yet the miscreants have committed a theft. It says a lot about the fear of police among anti-social element,” a Sector 69 resident, Satvir Singh Dhanoa, said.

A total of 22 taps from the bathroom, AC stabilisers, RO filters and electrical items were stolen, with the miscreants also trying to take away the oxygen cylinders but failing to do so.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when the staff arrived at the facility around 8 am.

The health centre’s staff members informed the police and the Mohali Senior Medical Officer HS Cheema, who rushed to the spot to assess the damage.

“Of late, miscreants and anti-social element seem to have no fear of the police. The area is well lit with residences in the neighbourhood yet the miscreants have committed a theft. It says a lot about the fear of police among anti-social element,” said Sector 69 resident Satvir Singh Dhanoa.

Medical Officer Suman Lata intimated the SMO about the incident and shared the list of stolen items today.

A complaint has also been lodged with Phase-8 police station and an investigating has been launched.

Notably, the Urban Primary Health Centre became operational after significant efforts, including intervention from Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, who raised the issue in the budget session of the Punjab assembly.

As a result, on March 26, the finally began operations. A medical officer, a staff nurse, a lab technician, LHV, ANM and other staff have been posted at the facility.
