Erratic water supply irks residents of Kaimbwala, Khuda Ali Sher villages in Chandigarh

Residents of Kaimbala and Khuda Ali Sher villages are facing an acute shortage of water with supply remaining at very low pressure for the past many days.

Water barely reaches the top floors in Kaimbwala village. Though the Municipal Corporation sends water tankers to the area, many residents are forced to pay hefty charges for hiring tanker service to meet their daily needs. One can see a large number of villagers, including women and children, queuing up before water tankers in the village every day.

Shamsher Singh, a resident of Kaimbwala village, said there had been no water supply on the upper floor of his house since the onset of summer. The area gets water supply for only two hours in the morning and evening, but pressure remains very low, he added.

Kishan Kumar, a shopkeeper of the village, said they were facing a lot of problems due to erratic water supply in the village.

The supply disruptions increase in the summer season, he added.

Aarti Devi said she had to get up early in the morning to fetch water. The MC has failed to provide proper water supply to the area.

Karam Singh, a farmer of Khuda Ali Sher, said there was an acute shortage of water in the area.

Local councillor Jaswinder Kaur said the people had been facing water supply issues for a long time. They are forced to meet their water needs through tanker service. She has written to the MC and the Administration for installing two more tubewells in the villages, but the authorities have not responded so far. The villages will have to be provided with facilities on a par with urban areas, she added.
