Evening walkers to be treated to live music at Chandigarh parks, gardens
People visiting parks in the city for evening walk will soon be treated with live music performance.
On the pattern of Delhi, the UT Tourism Department is going to provide a platform to artistes to perform in the city gardens or parks for an hour in the evening. The department is going to provide an opportunity to budding singers and instrumental artistes to perform at famous tourist spots and gardens such as Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj and other prominent landmarks.
Solo guitarists, singers or those skilled in any other performing art and having own music set-up or equipment can give public performance by joining the department.
The department has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) from eligible and interested artists, instrumental artists and singers to perform in gardens or parks in the city for entertainment of visitors for a period of one hour. Artists can apply by visiting the Tourism Department office in Sector 19 or can contact the department’s website or office for additional information. The selected artists will be given an opportunity to perform for about an hour every evening. In return, they will be paid around Rs 2,000 by the department.
The model has already been implemented by the Delhi Tourism Department and received an overwhelming response from both the artists and the audience alike. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also appreciated the initiative in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
A senior official of the Tourism Department said initially, the scheme was planned to be launched in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, but now the department has decided to implement it independently due to the financial condition of the corporation.
