Ex-AIG files plea to preserve CCTV footage of court
Chandigarh, August 6
A local court today sent retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Punjab Police Malvinder Singh Sidhu to judicial custody.
Sidhu was arrested on the charge of killing his son-in-law Harpreet Singh, an Indian Civil Accounts Services officer, on the court premises on Saturday. He was produced before the court after his two-day police remand ended today.
Ravinder Singh Bassi, counsel for Sidhu, has also filed an application before the court praying to issue directions to the police to preserve the CCTV footage of the District Courts, residence of the accused and an institute situated in Sector 24, Chandigarh. Bassi said the CCTV footage of the area was crucial in the case. The CCTV footage of the Sector 24 institute is demanded because the son of the accused was taking coaching from there.
While coming out of the court, Sidhu demanded a CBI inquiry in all cases registered against him by the Vigilance Bureau.
Sidhu allegedly shot dead his son in law when they were at the mediation centre in connection with a divorce case. There was a matrimonial dispute between the two families, and both sides appeared before the Chandigarh Family Court for mediation. Three rounds of mediation had taken place. — TNS
