Dr Rakesh Gupta, former Director of Health Services (DHS), Punjab, has offered to serve on an honorary basis on the post of Administrative Director, NHM, UT.

In a letter to the UT Administrator, Dr Gupta stated that he had superannuated as the DHS, Punjab, recently, and would like to contribute towards making health services better in the city, where he has been living for the past 54 years.

Dr Gupta said he offered his services as the Administrative Director, NHM, UT, on an honorary basis at a salary of Rs1 per month. “The money thus saved may be used to provide better salaries to the contractual NHM staff,” he added.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
