Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former UT Mayor Pardeep Chhabra (65) passed away today after a prolonged illness. He quit the Congress to join AAP in August 2021 before the Municipal Corporation (MC) elections

The AAP leader had been undergoing treatment for jaundice. He breathed is last this morning. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Chhabra was the AAP co-in charge for Chandigarh. He was also the chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board.

He was instrumental in debutant AAP’s good show in the Municipal Corporation elections in December 2021. The party emerged the single-largest party. Several of the winning councillors were his close associates and had dumped the Congress to join AAP before the elections.

Chhabra was known for his close association with Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal. He was widely respected among city residents for his warm and helpful nature. His cremation took place in the evening at Sector 25, and was attended by several leaders from both AAP and the Congress.

During a meeting, the MC House also paid tribute to the departed soul.
