Seven-yr-old girl drowns
Dera Bassi: A seven-year-old girl died after drowning in a pit filled with water near an under-construction area in a house in Mirpur on Monday evening. The victim, identified as Mohini, was at home with her elder brother at the time of the incident. Around 5 pm, passers-by saw the girl’s body floating in the pit. The girl was pulled out of the pit and taken to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police said it appears that the child accidentally fell into the pit while playing. Mubarikpur police station in-charge Arshdeep Sharma said no foul had been suspected. TNS
Exhibition concludes
Chandigarh: The three-day Creative Karma Visual Art Exhibition, which was held at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16, concluded on Monday. The exhibition was dedicated to doctors and frontline medical staff who served society during the pandemic. Forty budding and amateur artists, including specially abled, from different states exhibited their artwork. Some of the maiden participants, including Sahila Sharma, were appreciated for their artwork. TNS
Acclaimed writer passes away
Chandigarh: Madhur Kapila (79), a renowned figure in the Hindi literature, died of cardiac arrest here on December 19. Born on April 15, 1942 in Jalandhar, Kapila started her writing career when she was just 12. Among her popular published works included “Bhatke Raah”, “Satwan Swar” and “Saamne ka Aasman”. For her outstanding contribution to the Hindi literature, Kapila was awarded the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011. TNS
